Our Bible Books Winter/Spring 2022
Confession time: I regularly miss our daily, bible reading. I really shouldn't even dub it "daily" well because truthfully, we are lucky to get in 5 bible-reading days in a row. Oh and confession numero dos: I never start our mornings with bible.
Missionary Stories Monday (See how I keep things simple around here!)The stories in Hero Tales by Dave & Neta Jackson are phenomenal, based on actual events where God has provided for several missionaries preaching the gospel to the far corners of the earth. There's adventures, danger and unwavering faith. I've started reading a portion on Fridays too.
Three years ago, I attended a life-changing homeschool conference and one common, encouraging message was to always always begin your homeschool days with bible. While I certainly see the value in that, I habitually have found myself letting my babes play after breakfast and I try to sit down with my own bible reading (and coffee hopefully) for a mere 7ish minutes. And then we do math first! And bible always at lunch.
When my big kids were little, it seemed easier to complete or almost complete a bible story whilst they were munching. Now it's a habit they've begun to expect.
There's so much good material that I have yet to get my hands on, it can be quite overwhelming. Especially when it comes to the all important desire to convey God's truth to my youngsters. I decidedly broke it down into three days, on weekends we read a quick psalm or a passage from Luke. The pattern I continue to see, is how much mom learns along with the kids.

Theology Tuesdays (This is really just to keep my head on straight) Of all the things that a parent could teach a kid the truth of a good God that loves them? It sure beats out the importance of everything else. If I get that message across then who cares how many times we have frozen, un-organic pizza for dinner. It's his lovingkindness that draws us to repentance. This book by Kathryn Slattery has been wonderful. Easy to read, filled with bible passages and ton's of good questions. We won't get through this by the time summer rolls around so I'll very likely use this again in the fall or the near future.
Worldview Wednesdays We are really just quickly summarizing the world's main religions. The main point I want to exhibit to the girls is that not everyone believes what we do, and at the heart, all religions are pretty different. It has been beneficial to demonstrate the value in knowing why you believe what you believe. Today we prayed for Muslims and I shared a little from my own reading about how Jesus miraculously regularly intervenes in the dreams of Muslims. The main concept I hope they grasp: Logically all religions can not be true.
Adventure Bible(Almost) Daily - Even if I just read a teensy bit a few times a week, it's all good. God is good.
Isaiah 54:13 All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children.
