What We are Reading April 2022
Ahh yes. The time of year to pull out the picnic blankets and a stack of books. I have high hopes to spend a considerable amount of time at our local metro parks with our school reading in tow. But also, little Mr. into-everything-spitfire will be joining us so the only reading we may do while out and about may consist solely of the audiobook in the car ride over. And that’s okay. Happy Spring! Here’s what we are reading.
Poppleton by Cynthia Rylant is a family favorite. It’s an early reader and it’s well loved by all. Including mom, dad and little man. It’s hilarious. There are three short stories. We can’t get enough Poppleton.
Our Science reading. The Let’s Read and Find Out Science series has been perfect for my 8 year old and 6 year old twins. It’s easy, interesting and books can be reserved through our local library system.
The picture book historical biographies by Ingri & Edgar Parin d’Aulaire are great for early elementary history reading. My girls have been fascinated by the true depiction of the Native American princess. All of these historical biographies can be found at Christianbook.com.
This classic book has been great for us on audio. While it’s not super-thrilling, we’ve enjoyed the use of older language and learning about the endearing main character Sara. Can be found on hoopla*
Hilarious version of the classic fable. Reading and re-reading this week. There is also a Three Little Pigs title by the same author, Corey Rosen Schwartz.
I looove this book. It’s my new favorite. It’s sweet and heart-warming and you’ll want to just give Elmore the porcupine a big old hug. This will be one for us to purchase for sure.
The girls are all big fans of the Ranger in Time Series. Maybe it’s because the loyal adorable retriever reminds us of our late retriever, Ziggy. But the stories are exciting and they have taught us a lot of big historical events. Win-win for all. This is book # 11 by Kate Messner. No need to read in chronological order.
Never gets old. Helps with early phonetic skills. My toddler’s current bedtime story. His sisters like to say they can read this one too.
A brand new read for us and it’s quite endearing. A story of the value of family and not realizing what you have until it’s gone. Perfect for our full yet little house.
A story of neighbors who never notice one another until they need to. Sweet and cute new read.
Mama’s List
I am usually reading three books at a time. Usually something spiritual, something educational and something fun/fiction. If you’ve read any of my other posts you know I’m sort of an apologetics nerd. The Case for Miracles is like all of Strobel’s books: thoroughly researched, entertaining and provides a strong basis for his argument that the miraculous is still occurring.
A good book on effective, gentle, yet persuasive communicating and defending the Historic Christian Faith. I use the questions on my kids haha.
So far this story has been difficult to put down. The characters come alive and stories like this awaken my sense of gratitude. It almost feels like I’ve been to Alaska now.
*An enormous amount of audiobooks and e-books can be found by downloading the app hoopla.
